Prairie Patina
16 x 20 in.
Mixed media on 100% cotton watercolor paper
What is it that makes me stop and stare at an old abandoned vehicle resting quietly in a field?
Perhaps it's the beauty that comes with age. The weathered paint, rust, worn edges, and unique patina that only time, sun, wind, and rain could create. These aren't flaws, they're the marks of a life well lived.
Where did it travel? What adventures did it take its people on? I imagine conversations between loved ones, quiet drives home after a long day's work, laughter from family and friends riding in the bed of the truck, first dates, and songs that became the soundtrack of their lives.
To me, these forgotten vehicles are more than abandoned machinery. They are storytellers. Though they no longer travel the roads, they still carry the echoes of lives once lived. Their beauty lies not only in the patina that time has painted across their surfaces, but in the memories they quietly invite us to imagine.
